Avon medical building destroyed in fire

AVON, CT (WFSB) -

Fire crews in Avon worked to extinguish a large fire that destroyed a medical building early Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out inside a building located at 30 West Avon Rd. before 6 a.m., and smoke poured from the roof for more than an hour as crews worked to get the fire out.

People employed at the building said they couldn't believe what they saw as they pulled up to start the workday.

"I saw flames and just tons of smoke," Claudia Deangelas said.

Inside the building were two doctors' offices, labs and a walk-in clinic.

"I have things in there," Karla Lee said. "I mean, our lab was just being renovated, too."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials are still trying to determine if the fire was suspicious or not. It is unclear when that investigation will be finished.

The majority of medical records were not harmed, due to the fact they were in a medical locker, medical group officials said.

The office is currently in the process of relocating to a new office space in the area and hopes to reopen soon.

Any patients that require a medication refill is urged to call the practice at 860-673-2581.

Anyone who goes to the West Avon Road location, can go to the following Clinical Lab Partners locations at 100 Simsbury Rd. #207 and 339 West Main St.
